SADIE

Once upon a time a little dog (that’s Sadie) came home from the pound with a very happy and slightly nervous potter (that’s me). Sadie is a mutt or a mix-breed made up of a wonderful mix of Shar-pei and Staffordshire terrier. She is 9 years old now, weighs 64 pounds and stands about 26 inches tall. She has dark spots on her tongue (most Asian dogs have this trait).

I think her favorite toy is Goose, a stuffed Canadian goose, she bit through the sound bladder that made the funniest honking sound, so now it’s more of a quiet friend than a rabble rouser. Those are some of the facts, or at least the more objective statements I can state without generating too much controversy or raised eyebrows and eye rolls from my friends and family.

For a wrinkle mix dog, she is pretty smooth and she loves to sleep on couches and beds whenever possible. For the most part... if a human is sitting in it or lying down on it, Sadie wants to be there.

Now Sadie, although being a great dog, is not a perfect dog. She seems to have a very hard time responding to the “come” command and loves to lick little children on the face (which if you were two feet tall yourself this might be a bit imposing and quite possibly...scary). And, she sheds, like all the time, which is weird because we pretty much have the same amount of hair (and people have described me as being bald). Well at least I can put a hat on my head in the Winter, Sadie just goes around in the buff, outside, you know like a Mailman, come rain, snow, sleet or shine... out she goes. Her other shortcomings include bad, bad breath (and that’s on both ends) and she snores. In fact, and this is true, she sounds exactly like a turkey gobbling when she dreams. So I’m convinced she must have been some sort woodland fowl in a past life.

Back to the good stuff, Sadie is great in the woods, she is friendly to other dogs and cats and birds and (unfortunately) skunks and squirrels, kind of like Casper the friendly dog. Out on walks in the woods or in the parks Sadie will perform the perfect fire safety maneuver of Stop Drop and Roll. This will leave her in the perfect position for sunning her belly. During the summer months Sadie comes to the Farmer’s Markets where she greets many of her friends. She loves to put her head out the window when driving down Interstate 89, (especially when we’re going fast). And, Sadie loves, or to be more precise, she is a freak for baby carrots.

That’s some dog, and I’m not kidding. But I think that’s plenty of info, and some might say “too much information” about Sadie.
